Many parents are now looking to the Amazon Fire as an option for their children. However, before you can do anything with your child's profile on the device, you'll need to add apps. This article will show you how easy it is to find and download apps directly from their profile page on Amazon Fire tablets! What is Amazon Fire ? Amazon Fire parental controls let you control what your child can do on their Amazon tablet. You can block or allow access to books, videos, apps, games, and websites based on your specific guidelines.  The Parent Dashboard for this is available in the Settings app under Parental Controls. If you don't see it there, try searching for "parental controls" in the Amazon Fire search bar. Log in to your Amazon account   Before you can add apps, you'll need to be logged in to your Amazon account.  To do this: Make sure your child's profile is unlocked (if they're using it) Go to the Home Screen and swipe down from the top of the screen Select Settings Find and select Users & Accounts Select Your Account Enter your password If you can't remember your password, select Forgot Password? Add Apps to Your Child's Profile on Amazon Fire Tablets Now that you're logged in, you'll want to add apps to your child's profile. Follow these steps: From the Home Screen, swipe down from the top of the screen Select Settings Select Parental Controls Select Apps Check the box next to your child's name to turn on parental controls You may be prompted for a PIN or password If you haven't set up one before, select Create New Parent Account Password. Otherwise, enter your existing PIN or password Scroll down and choose Amazon FreeTime Unlimited On this page you'll see all of the apps that are part of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited Scroll down to the bottom and select Get More I'll help you find apps for your child. Select Ok Select one of the following categories Books Comics Education Entertainment Games Apps Lifestyle Music Video Newsstand Shop Shopping Social Sports Talk Video You can also search for specific apps by entering keywords in the Search bar at the top, selecting Search bar on top , and then typing in your keywords. When you find an app you're interested in, select the box next to it. Note that some apps may be free while others require a subscription How do I adjust my child's settings? If your child wants to use apps outside of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited, they'll have to ask you. You can adjust your child's profile settings by following these steps: From the Home Screen, swipe down from the top of the screen Select Settings Select Parental Controls Under Child Profiles, select on the profile you'd like to edit Enter your PIN or password Scroll down and select Apps  A list of all the apps in your child's profile will be displayed Select the app you'd like to edit Depending on the app, you'll be able to turn it off or set restrictions You can also adjust some settings from within certain apps. For example, if your child wants to watch a show on Netflix they'll need to ask for permission before you can allow it. You can adjust this setting by following these steps: From the Home Screen, swipe down from the top of the screen Select Settings Select Parental Controls Under Child Profiles, select your child's profile Enter your PIN or password Scroll down and select Apps  A list of all the apps in your child's profile will be displayed Select Netflix Select Permissions  At the top of this page you'll see three tabs: Allowed, Not Allowed, and Ask Allowed is the default setting. Underneath you'll see two options: Playback Control (for screen lock) and Search (for search history) Make any edits under these sections that are needed by selecting them If you'd like to make sure your child can access Netflix, but nothing else, you can disable all other apps by selecting the On/Off button under Apps Included with Amazon Free Time Unlimited You can also adjust these same settings for books, videos, music, and games that are included in Amazon FreeTime. How do I uninstall apps? When your child's apps are restricted, they won't be able to access them unless you allow it. You can still hide them by following these steps: From the Home Screen, swipe down from the top of the screen Select Settings Select Applications Select On for All Apps  This will turn off parental controls If you'd like to hide specific apps, you can do so by following these steps: From the Home Select Settings  At the top of this page tap Parental Controls Under Child Profiles, select your child's profile Enter your PIN or password Scroll down and select Apps  A list of all the apps in your child's profile will be displayed Select the app you'd like to hide From the top of the screen, swipe down and select On/Off How do I reinstall apps? If you've hidden an app before, you'll need to follow these steps: From the Home Screen, swipe down from the top of the screen Select Settings  Select Applications  Under Third-Party Content, select On for All Apps  This will turn off parental controls From the Home Screen, swipe down from the top of the screen Select Settings  Select Parental Controls Under Child Profiles, select your child's profile Enter your PIN or password Scroll down and select Apps  A list of all the apps in your child's profile will be displayed Select the app you'd like to unhide From the top of the screen, swipe down and select On/Off How do I share my profile with another parent? If you have multiple children who use the same tablet, you might need to create a separate profile for each child. You can switch profiles by following these steps: To switch to your child's profile, follow the same steps as above but select their profile. You can also adjust some settings from within certain apps. For example, if your child wants to watch a show on Netflix they'll need to ask for permission before you can allow it. You can adjust this setting by following these steps: From the Home Screen, swipe down from the top of the screen Select Settings  Under Profiles Select your child's profile Enter your PIN or password Scroll down and select Apps A list of all the apps in your child's profile will be displayed Select Netflix Choose Permissions At the top of this page you'll see three tabs: Allowed, Not All Allowe d, and Ask Allowed is the default setting. Underneath you'll see two options: Playback Control (for screen lock) and Search (for search history) Make any edits under these sections that are needed by selecting them If your child asks to watch a different show on Netflix, you can select Allowed to let them watch it Can I control what's displayed on the home screen? Yes. You can hide or show apps on the Home Screen by following these steps: From the Home Screen, swipe down from the top of the screen Select Settings Select Applications At the top of this page you'll see a list of all installed applications. On this page you can turn apps on or off by selecting the switch next to each app Select Home Screen to select which apps appear on your home screen.
